BASF’s subsidiary, BASF Future Business GmbH, develops new materials, technologies, and system approaches within the business areas of Energy Management, Quality of Life and Organic Electronics. BASF opened a research laboratory for organic electronics in Ludwigshafen in 2006. The laboratory, in conjunction with the Joint Innovation Lab (JIL) undertakes research into OLEDs and organic photovoltaics. BASF has been a participant in the OPAL project and is working with OSRAM on efficient white light OLEDs.
