Iberdrola in mega wind project

Spain’s Iberdrola Energias Renovables has begun the construction of the world’s largest wind power complex in the Dobrogea region of Romania. Iberdrola, which is already the biggest renewable energy firm in the world, has started building an 80MW wind farm that will eventually form part of a network of 50 farms with a combined capacity of 1.5GW.

Bglobal secures smart meter deals

The first quarter of 2011 has seen smart meter supplier Bglobal win two new contracts and secure an agreement with Samsung, enabling the AIM-quoted firm to enter the residential market.

OPG Power Ventures raises £60m

India-focused power generator OPG Power Ventures has raised £60 million to finance additional generating capacity in India. The Alternative Investment Market-quoted business raised the money at 93p a share; OPG joined AIM at 60p a share in May 2008.

Oxford Catalysts rolls out reactor

Synthetic oil specialist Oxford Catalysts Group has successfully completed the fabrication of its first commercial scale Fischer-Tropsch reactor, a feat that independent broker HSBC describes as signalling the beginning of the commercial roll-out of the FT technology.

Centrotherm shares surge

Shares in manufacturing equipment maker Centrotherm Photovoltaics surged during March ahead of solid results for 2010 reported by the company towards the end of the month.In the two weeks before the results Centrotherm’s shares increased by 27%, which investment bank Commerzbank attributed to strength among photovoltaics equities generally and an increased belief that 2011 guidance may be too conservative.
