GMZ Energy, based in the US, was founded in 2006 and is a pioneer in nanotechnology-based materials, building blocks for a new generation of energy-efficient and more environmentally friendly products. The company’s solid-state technology platform was developed at MIT and Boston College. The technology utilizes the highest performing bulk thermoelectric material available and unlocks its potential for widespread use - opening the door to numerous solid-state approaches to cooling and power generation by transforming waste heat to electricity, creating a new class of energy for a range of solar, waste heat and industrial applications.
A USD 4.5 million Series C investment in GMZ energy was completed by the I2BF Venture Fund II in December 2011. Co investors in GMZ Energy include BP Alternative Energy, Mitsui Global Investment, Energy Technology Ventures, GE and KPCB. GMZ Energy has also received US$11m in grant funding from the US Department of Energy and DARPA.
