VantagePoint Venture Partners is a large cleantech-focused fund manager based in Silicon Valley, California, which has recently expanded its operations to Asia by establishing new offices in Beijing and Hong Kong. It has no specific geographic or stage preferences, providing capital from seed stage through mezzanine. The firm invests in a diverse range of cleantech sectors, including solar energy, energy storage, transportation, materials, energy efficiency and wind power.

In total, the firm has committed approximately $1 billion to the cleantech sector through its various funds. Its largest pure cleantech fund to date, VantagePoint CleanTech Partners II, closed on $435 million in Q4 2008. The firm is in the process of fundraising for a new 2011 vintage fund, VantagePoint CleanTech Partners III, which it hopes will reach $1.25 billion. Notable investments include 1366 Technologies, a US-based solar power cell producer, AlertMe, a UK-based smart-home energy technology company, and E-one Moli Energy, a Taiwan-based rechargeable lithium-ion battery manufacturer.
