During a visit to the Governor of Rio Grande do Norte, President Dilma Rousseff reiterated her support for the development of a technology centre for wind energy for the state. According to newspaper Tribuna do Norte, Governor Rosalba Ciarlini also met the Education Minister, Fernando Haddad, to whom she emphasised the importance of a partnership with the Federal Government for the construction of the centre and the provision of equipment. It is expected that the centre, when operational, will cover the metropolitan region of Natal as well as the countryside, with the support of mobile units. Ciarlini will meet President Rousseff once again at the meeting of governors in the northeast region, in Aracaju, Sergipe, which will take place on 21 February. State Secretary for Economic Development, Benito Gama, was recently quoted as saying that the wind technology project in Rio Grande do Norte will be one of the world's largest. The north eastern state currently has two wind farms in operation, with a further 62 expected to be operational by 2013.
