14.15 - Panel 3 - Pernambuco
Wind energy has attracted investment of close to R$0.5bn to the State of Pernambuco to date - and the State Government hopes to attract extensive investment over coming years. The State is forging links with European companies such as LM Windpower, the Danish blade manufacturer, which is setting up a manufacturing plant in Suape.
This session will review how Suape is becoming a hub for manufacturing of wind generating equipment (companies including Impsa, Iraeta and RM Eolica are based in the region) - and it will review incentives under the Pernambuco Development Programme (Programa de Desenvolvimento de Pernambuco, or Prodepe) which are on offer to companies to set up in the state. It will also review the progress of studies by the state to identify further wind resources, including a review of resources of wind at altitutes of 80-100 metres.

Rio Grande do Norte is one of the most important states for wind project development in the North East of Brazil. This sesion will discuss issues including:
- licensing and environmental/social programmes in wind farm projects in RN
- legal and contractual issues on land availability and property for wind power projects in the state
- tax regime for the wind sector in Rio Grande do Norte
- role of the State Government in promoting the wind industry for the state
- the work of CERNE (Strategic Centre for Natural Resources and Energy)
