Energisa S.A. has awarded Vestas a contract for 75 wind turbines with total capacity of 150 MW for projects in Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. The 2 MW turbines are earmarked for projects including Ventos de Sao Miguelm,  Renascença I, Renascença II, Renascença III and Renascença IV.

Vestas will commission the turbines and take on five year service and maintenance agreements. The company will also deploy its recently launched Active Output Management package 'AOM 5000', a new service to optimise wind power plant output through an infrastructure of diagnostic systems and operational planning. Energisa CEO, Ricardo Botelho, expects the AOM 5000 to provide "...a higher certainty of energy production and a higher energy output, leading to a more secure return on investment.”

Rio Grande do Norte, under Governor Rosalba Ciarlini, is transforming itself into a wind enery manufacturing and research and development hub. Vestas has yet to commit to constructing a turbine manufacturing plant in Brazil. However, according to Juan Araluce of Vestas, the company aims to “contribute to creating a local industry" in Brazil "through the development of a strong network of local suppliers and competencies”.

The turbines are scheduled for delivery from the first quarter of 2012 until the end of 2012.
