Breaking the Bottlenecks

Rapid growth in the Brazilian wind industry has exposed a number of bottlenecks which have resulted in slow progress in areas including:

- the roll-out of a local manufacturing industry (BNDES ‘blacklisted’ a number of manufacturers during 2012, causing uncertainty for the industry);

- the construction of transmission connections; and

- the education and training of a qualified workforce.

The morning of Day one of BWEC 2013 will review the causes of these bottlenecks, the implications of international conditions in the wind power markets and of government policy on wind power. Expert panelists will debate how these bottlenecks can be resolved and how investor confidence in the Brazilian wind industry can be cultivated and retained.

9.10 am: Session 1 – THE BOTTLENECKS: INDUSTRY PERSPECTIVES

Wind industry experts will outline the challenges which the Brazilian wind industry is facing. The panel will be comprised of speakers including:

- Prof. Everaldo Feitosa - President, Eólica Tecnologia - Chair
- Elbia Melo - Executive President, Abeeolica
- Laura Porto - Country Manager, Iberdrola Renováveis do Brasil and Managing Director of Força Eólica do Brasil
- Pedro Pileggi - CFO, Renova Energia
- Roberto Veiga – Director, ABIMAQ

10.15 am: Session 2 – THE BOTTLENECKS: INVESTOR PERSPECTIVES

Working alongside solar

Brazilian solar energy has lagged behind wind, at least for utility scale projects. However, solar is starting to make its mark in Brazil. For the afternoon session on Day 1 of BWEC 2013, delegates of co-located event, BSEC (Brazil Solar Energy Conference) 2013 will join together with BWEC delegates for a broad discussion on Brazilian energy strategy - and the optimal role of wind and solar within the overall mix.

Note: BWEC delegates may attend any of the sessions taking place during the co-located BSEC 2013.
