Dennis Hayter

Dennis Hayter is VP Business Development at Intelligent Energy and is the Chairman of the UK Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association.

Intelligent Energy recently raised funding of £7 million for the acceleration of its fuel cell power systems. The company has developed a fuel cell black cab and is involved in a project to deliver a fleet of fuel cell taxis in London ahead of the 2012 Olympics, in a consortium which includes Lotus Engineering, London Taxis International and TRW Conekt.

John Butt - Founder, Conduit Ventures

John Butt founded Conduit Ventures in 2001 and has overall responsibility for the strategic direction of the Conduit Ventures funds.

Conduit Ventures invests in OECD and select Asian countries, focusing on areas including high efficiency energy management, storage and advanced conversion technologies (including include fuel cells, hydrogen and related bridging technologies); fuel processing and delivery technologies; functional/advanced materials (e.g. catalysts); carbon capture and utilization from hydrocarbon fuels; balance of plant components for advanced drive trains (e.g. air management systems, inverters and waste heat recovery); low cost, low carbon fuel generation technologies from multiple feedstock (e.g. hydrogen). The emphasis is on technologies which have strong market potential in Europe and Emerging Asia. Conduit is neutral on the stage of investment and will consider early to late stage investments.

Prior to Conduit, John worked at Citigroup, Price Waterhouse International Privatization Group and Bank of England based in the UK, North America, EU, Central and Eastern Europe. Marcello Contestabile

Marcello's research focuses on techno-economic, market and policy analysis of hydrogen, fuel cell and battery technologies, particularly in the context of road transport. His current interests include assessing the potential role of hydrogen fuel cell and battery technologies in a future, sustainable transport system and analysing pathways to their development and market uptake. In order to explore the complex interactions between technology, markets and policy he also uses system theory and dynamic simulation modelling.

Before joining Imperial Marcello worked as an R&D scientist in industry, developing advanced lithium-ion batteries. He hold an MSc-equivalent degree in Chemistry from the University of Rome, Italy, an MSc in Environmental Technology from Imperial and is currently completing a part-time PhD in Energy Policy and Technology also at Imperial.
